Controllable Local Systems?

What exactly is CLS, and how do these system units interact with the rest of the iMSys infrastructure? And why are we, at PPC, convinced that, in the end, it will be beneficial for all users and business areas?

What are Controllable Local Systems?

Businesses engaging with the German energy infrastructure soon encounter the intelligent metering system (iMSys). The German smart meter rollout is uniquely based on the iMSys which comprises a smart meter and a Smart Meter Gateway (SMGW); a device
designed to securely manage communication of data from the smart meter into the wider energy infrastructure.

Not only metering and billing information, but a wide range of data can be securely communicated from smart meters to end customers, utilities, energy providers, grid operators and third-party businesses.

This presents opportunities to businesses active, or coming into, the German market for metering, sub-metering, automation services, e-mobility and more. Anywhere where a device can be used as an active component of the smart grid, or as a basis for a value-added service, our gateways and adapters can be deployed to interact with it via the iMSys.

To help you integrate your products and services to this ecosystem, PPC has also developed a platform for product development and interoperability testing, to give you a fast track into the German market.

Our CLS portfolio provides the foundation for all use cases in Germany.
